Prospect Update
Just because people are starting Christmas holidays doesn’t mean the hockey world grinds to a halt. Here are your weekly prospect updates:
Eric O’Dell (Sudbury, OHL) continues to be a story in the OHL. Remember, he was acquired in a roundabout way through the Hossa trade, so that deal can’t be evaluated without including him. He piled up four goals and six points in three games last week and has 40 points in 36 games overall. Meanwhile one of the best names in hockey- Jimmy Bubnick (Kamloops, WHL)- has four goals and four assists over his last five games. Second-round pick Jeremy Morin keeps tearing it up in Kitchener (OHL) and will find out later today is he made the Team USA world junior squad. Flying under the radar in the junior ranks is defenseman Ben Chiarot who has 11 points and 85 PIMs in 35 games. that doesn’t sound too impressive until you consider that he had 12 points and 111 PIMS in 67 games last season. His three goals are one more than he scored in his first two years of junior hockey combined.
In goal Chris Carrozzi is 13-3-3 with an OHL-best 2.00 GAA and .927 save percentage while playing for Dave Cameron’s St. Mike’s Majors. Cameron isn’t known for being easy on players, so it’s a testament to Carrozzi that he’s performing so well for a notoriously tough coach.
At the pro level it’s the usual suspects piling up points. AHL vets Jason Krog and Tim Stapleton have 31 and 19 points respectively while Brett Sterling is having a solid bounce-back year with 15 goals and 27 points in 26 games. Last season he had 17 goals in 52 games.
Merry Christmas To One And All!
Best Wishes In 2010.
